The short version
A standard clean handles the visible, everyday dirt: dusting, vacuuming, mopping, bathrooms, and kitchen surfaces. A deep clean does all of that plus the hidden buildup — baseboards, grout, inside appliances, window tracks, and ceiling fans. Think of standard cleaning as maintenance and deep cleaning as a reset.
What a standard clean covers
Every room gets the basics. In the living areas: dust all reachable surfaces, vacuum carpets and rugs, mop hard floors, empty trash. In the kitchen: wipe counters and the outside of appliances, clean the sink, mop the floor. In the bathrooms: scrub the toilet, tub or shower, sink, and mirrors, wipe counters, mop the floor. Bedrooms get dusting, vacuuming, and fresh-sheet-style tidying.
Standard cleaning is what recurring visits look like. It keeps a maintained home clean visit after visit.
What a deep clean adds
A deep clean goes behind and underneath. Baseboards get hand-wiped. Window sills and tracks get cleaned out. Light fixtures and ceiling fans get dusted. The inside of the microwave gets scrubbed. Shower grout and soap scum get real attention. Cabinet fronts get wiped down. Behind the toilet, under the beds, on top of tall furniture — the places nobody cleans week to week.
A deep clean takes about twice as long as a standard clean for the same home, because every surface gets individual attention.
When to book a deep clean
Book a deep clean first if the home has not been professionally cleaned before, or not in a long time. Starting with a deep clean gives the crew a clean slate, so every recurring visit after that is faster and cheaper.
Other good times for a deep clean: before listing a home for sale, after construction or remodeling, when moving in or out, seasonally (many people do one in spring and one before the holidays), or when allergies flare and you suspect dust buildup.
When a standard clean is enough
If the home already gets regular cleaning — by you or by a service — a standard clean maintains it just fine. There is no reason to pay for a deep clean every visit once the baseline is clean.
Which should you book first?
If you are starting recurring service, book a deep clean first, then drop to standard visits on your schedule. That first deep clean is the foundation everything else builds on. If you just need a one-time tidy before guests, a standard clean is plenty.
